Paranormal...Romance... & a Side of Spice!

What else can you call it when you have an author who writes all three, and who is offering a FREE copy of her new erotic romance novel to a lucky commenter? Oh wait! I know... Ladies and Gents...Laura Kaye!

LC: Hi Laura, and welcome to the Authorpalooza. It's so awesome to have you here today!

LK: Thanks for having me here as part of this great event!

LC: Why don't we start out with you sharing a bit about your latest book. What can you tell us about it?

LK: I would love to share my debut contemporary erotic romance with you! Here’s the blurb: (*Note... This blurb is steamier than what we usually have on the blog. For ages 18+, please). Click here for the Just Gotta Say Synopsis

LC: Wow! That's sizzlin', girl! So, tell us a bit about yourself as an author. How long have you been writing? Have you always known that you wanted to write?

LK: Really, I’ve been writing all my life. I was alone a lot as a kid, and writing is a great activity to do on your own, obviously. I wrote several stories I can still remember, and one that won a county board of education award. But, in high school, my writing became more oriented around journalism, and in college, around history. Then I went to graduate school and ultimately earned a doctorate in American history, which focused my writing energies into non-fiction. It wasn’t until three years ago, almost exactly, that I started writing fiction. Weird story—I hit my head on July 4th, 2008, and ended up with about a month of horrible headaches, but once I started to heal, I was overcome with the urge to write fiction. And I haven’t looked back since. The brain obviously works in mysterious ways…

LC: What a neat story! (Not the bump on the head part, of course, but the resulting "call to fiction"). Also sounds like you've had some solid recognition. On that note, what, would you say, has been your greatest triumph as an author?

LK: This is such an interesting question, because there are truly so many different triumphs one experiences as an author. The big one is achieving publication and, perhaps even more important, having people actually buy your book! LOL But, I think triumph comes in many forms way before that. The first time you write “The End” is such a huge milestone—it means you’ve accomplished what many people set out to do and never finish, and others never even attempt: write a book. And, finishing one gives you confidence you can finish more. It’s hard for me to pick one triumph that stands out among the rest, but I’m currently very pleased that my contemporary romance, Hearts in Darkness, is selling so well and earning great reviews pretty much everywhere. It’s so rewarding to have people find something very special which you poured your heart into.

LC: That's one of my favorite aspects of being an author--all of the strange and wonderful moments that go along with it! Speaking of strange, where is the most exotic or strange place you've ever traveled to?

LK: The Czech Republic. Hands down. When I was there in the summer of 2003 it was entirely like the Wild West. The Slavic Wild West, maybe, but still. As soon as you got off the train, they were warning you about criminal activity, and then the train personnel themselves tried to charge me different prices for the same item. There’s apparently a ton of Russian and Italian mob activity there, too. It’s was cool, though, I really liked touring Prague.

LC: Crazy! That would feel like you just stepped into some wild espionage flick! (Yeah, we're at the movie questions again.) What is your favorite movie of all time, and why?

LK: Oh, geez. This is hard! Maybe Dead Poet’s Society. I love the message the teacher is trying to get across to the students in that story, and I’m a huge Robin Williams fan.

LC: Is it just me, or can that man take you from laughing to crying in the blink of your tear-filled eye? Alright...moving on to movie question number two:  Let's say a big-wig Hollywood producer came along and offered to turn one, or more, of your books into a movie. Who would you want to play the lead roles?

LK: For my vampire romance, Forever Freed, that’s easy: Lucien would be played by Alex O’Loughlin, who was the actor in my head the whole time I was writing. My sweet Caden from Hearts in Darkness could maybe be played by Channing Tatum or Vin Diesel, though I never had someone in mind for him. The three, ahem, guys in Just Gotta Say, I’d have to think about that—totally not sure!

LC: Or...you could just have them bring in a bunch of candidates, and you could sit in on the auditions. I mean, as the author, you'd want to make sure they were absolutely perfect, right? ;) While we're on the subject of perfect characters, if you were marooned on a desert island with one of yours, who would you want it to be, and why?

LK: LOL This is actually very hard to answer! I mean, without question, it would be one of my heroes *waggles eyebrows*, but, good grief, I love them all SO MUCH for very different reasons. Okay, if I have to pick one…I’ll go with Caden Grayson, my tortured hero from Hearts in Darkness. Because he’s so damn sweet and sexy at the same time, I’d never get tired of talking to or looking at him!

LC: Yep...I knew this was going to be a fun interview! So, Laura, do you have any strange habits or rituals when you write?

LK: LOL, not really. Once I get in the zone of writing, I can pretty much tune out the world around me. My best friend who I sometimes write with (she’s also an author) would probably say I do have a strange habit—when I’m really in the zone, I’ll just be typing and typing and she’ll look over at me and realize I’m staring off at the window or something and not looking at the computer screen or keyboard while I type. I guess that’s a bit strange. LOL

LC: I'd say that writing while daydreaming is a pretty impressive talent! What kinds of things do you like to do when you're not writing?

LK: And when exactly is that??? I’m married and have two small kids, and I work a full-time job. So, when I’m not working or doing family stuff, I mostly write. Occasionally, though, I need to recharge my batteries, which reading or watching some good trash TV provides.

LC: Hehehee!

Well, Laura...it's been a total blast having you here! I hope you'll visit again! Before we wrap up, though, (uht oh! Here it comes), it's time for you to SELL IT! Why would we enjoy reading your books?

LK: You should read JUST GOTTA SAY because it is a molten hot, laugh-out-loud funny, warmly poignant quick read you’ll go back to again and again. I promise! And because you love me? Er, okay, just stick with the hot, funny, feel-good part! *winks*

LC: LOL, Thanks again, Laura!

LK: Thanks so much for having me here and including me in your Authorpalooza!
