No more than $10, ever. I almost guarantee I can find most books used for under $10 as it is, so the e-book is for convenience only. It's gotta be cheap or it's not worth it to me.
The most I've ever paid was $8, but I sort of resented it, even though I love that author. The most I'll happily pay is $5. The most I'll pay without thinking about it is $3.
Wow! You guys are all pretty generous! My max is usually around $4. I didn't realize that until I really started thinking about it the other day. I must admit that I have a bit of an ulterior motive in asking...I think my ebooks are about to get a price reduction! :o) Thanks for all the GREAT comments, everyone! Keep 'em coming!!!
The most I've paid was 5.99--and that was for a three-novella omnibus. For most e-books I pay about 2.99 or 3.99. But I don't buy books avail in print in e-book form, rather have the print book in my hands. The only e-books I buy are books not in print (from an e-publisher) or books from smashwords (I adore that site).
If it were a book that for some reason I absolutely HAD to have RIGHT NOW, I'd be willing to pay $8 or MAYYYYBE $10, but as others have said it would need to be a monumental book by one of my favorite authors.
Otherwise I like the $2.99 - $3.99 range. It seems fair, considering there is no paper, no printing/binding, no shipping, etc. (Or I'll find a used MMP for $0.01 + shipping.)
$10 & $12 for NYT bestselling authors seems like a ripoff.
As an author, my first book is free, unless you want to support The Wounded Warrior Project, in which case all proceeds from Amazon sales are donated. My other titles are $2.99. I think it's a nice compromise between my hours...and hours...and hours . . . and . . . hours of work, and the aforementioned lack of paper & shipping.
My favorite part about eBooks, however, is that I can download the free sample for books I know I will eventually read. That way I won't lose track of them. When I finally do get to a particular book, I can read the sample and purchase it if it makes me want to continue reading.
I won't pay more than $7-8, and only that much for one that I "MUST HAVE NOW!" if you know what I mean. Most of the time, I won't pay more than $1, though.
Probably $10-$12 for a book from an author I love or a highly recommended book. Less than $5 for shot in the dark read.
ReplyDeleteI never pay for e-books since i dont have an e-reader, so i just get the the ones for review (the pdfs) from the author...that's it
ReplyDeleteI've paid $5.99, but that was high. I tend to stay $4.99 or under.

ReplyDeleteThe most I ever paid was $8.50ish (US), but other than that one time, I never paid over $5.00. I usually hunt down the paperback past $5.00.
ReplyDeleteIf it was my very favourite author ever and the book looked amazing, twelve euro (about $16).
ReplyDeleteMost of the time, under five euro is my preference.
