Book Question of the Week
Hi Everyone,
I'm even later with the question this week! (Grrr!) I really need to put an alert in my phone or something!
Anyway, here goes:
It's not uncommon for a movie to be based on a book. What stories have you both read and seen as a movie? Which did you like better; the book or the flick? Enqiring minds want to know...

Here's my list where the books are always better, of course:
ReplyDeleteJurassic Park by Michael Crichton
The Lost World by Michael Crichton
Enjoyed the movies, but the books were a bit different and much better.
Disclosure by Michael Crichton
Dreamcatcher by Stephen King
Needful Things by Stephen King (book was MUCH better, particularly the ending).
Pet Semetery by Stephen King (book was much creepier).
It by Stephen King (much better than the movie)
The Chronicles of Narnia (So far, the books and movies are pretty equal for me on this one).
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. I preferred the ending of the movie, actually. Tighter, makes me bawl like a baby, though Amy Tan's storytelling and writing style are not to be missed.
ReplyDeleteOh! And The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. The movie was creepy-weird, summarized, and had a Hollywood ending. So I preferred the book there, even if it does get a bit heavy on medieval history.
ReplyDeleteI actually wrote a blog post about this subject once. Here's the link http://abookagirlajourney.blogspot.com/2011/05/gone-with-ending.html :)
ReplyDeleteHere are my book/movie comparisons
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter 1 - book better
Harry Potter 2 - movie better
Harry Potter 3 - was close but boom better
Harry Potter 4 - movie WAY better
Twilight - book better
LOTR - book better
The Kings Damsel bk/Quest for Camelot mv
Movie was way different from the book. I liked the movie alot better.
Eragon - book better
The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe: same
Prince Caspian: movie better
Hmm.. can't think of any more at the moment
Thanks for the comments you guys! It's great to hear from you all! I hope everything is going well with each of your endeavors!! :o)Keep the great comments coming!!!
ReplyDeleteI just read The Vampires's Assistant by Darren Shan and then watched the movie - books definitely better!
ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head:
ReplyDeleteFORREST GUMP - Loved both the film and the book
THE DA VINCI CODE - Book was much better
ANGELS & DEMONS - Liked them both: Ewan McGregor helped make the film
JURASSIC PARK - Loved the film
JAWS - Preferred the book
LOTR - Great films. Tried reading the book but just could not plough through it
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE - Both. Tom Cruise AND Brad Pitt? :swoons:

Chocolat, novel by Joanne Harris. Normally, I like books better than movies based on them, but in this case I enjoyed them both. I love Joanne Harris's novels. The movie was well-made, the changes from the book were acceptable in my opinion. Lasse Halström is a great director and the fact that Jonny Depp, Juliette Binoche and Judi Dench were in it made it all the more enjoyable.
