MIA...Literally!

So, MIA means Missing In Action, right? That is exactly what (or where) I've been...ACTION being the operative word. See, the reason I haven't been blogging, Tweeting, Facebooking, Goodreading, or any of those other wonderful internet based activities can be summed up in this statement: Hello, I'm L. Carroll and I'm an author with a writing problem. (They say admitting it is the first step.)

So, here's the issue: I'm currently working on not one...not two...but three...yeah, that's right, three new novels. Please don't ask what mental illness drove me to this brand of personal torture. I don't have an answer. Besides, I'm liable to burst into wholly unladylike hysterics if you do. At any rate, that is why I've been (hopefully) noticibly absent online. I'd like to say that I'll be back soon, but that would be a lie. In reality, I don't know when I'll return, or even if I'll survive this madness in the end. But don't be alarmed. 'Though they find my corpse staring, glassy-eyed, at the screen of my laptop and surrounded by empty Dr. Pepper bottles and Twinkie wrappers, 'twas done in the name of the books. THE NAME OF THE BOOKS, I SAY! (Wow, I guess I really do have a problem!)

Anywho, until we meet again, my friends, I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! (Also a Happy Ground Hog's Day, Valentine's Day, President's Day, St. Patty's Day, April Fool's, spring, summer, etc.)

And now, I must away to the lair!

  1. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Valentine's Day, etc. to you! Wow! I cannot imagine taking on 3 novels at once. No wonder you are MIA! You must be feeling a bit like a wild woman- getting to know all those characters! Do you write a little bit of each of them each day or do you focus on one for a day, then another book the next? That is a lot to juggle! I wish you the best of luck. Who knows- maybe one of the books will pull ahead for a little bit and let you wrap it up and then you will only have two to deal with!

Wishing you all the best in the new year.

  2. Thanks Jess!

    Your comment makes me smile!:o)

I'm actually trying a new approach this week. Since I don't typically write on Sunday, I'm focusing on one book during the week, clearing my mind on day seven and then moving to another story on Monday. I'm hoping this will help me avoid character confusion. (It's not good when a big, burly, tatooed social worker has the same personality and speech pattern as a four-year-old princess, if ya know what I mean. Suddenly the social worker isn't quite so burly!)

Anyway, thanks again, and here's to a smashing New Year!!

  3. It sounds like you came up with a great plan to keep everything straight! I hope it is working out. I cannot wait to hear how it is going crafting 3 books at once. I am still in awe! Oh- and by the way- I love the comic. I don't know if I noticed it last time, as I was so amazed by the projects you were undertaking.

    Take care-
    Jess

    1. Hi Jess,

You're so wonderful!!! Thanks for commenting again.

To say the very least, this new "process" has been interesting. I think it's working fairly well, but I've found that by the end of the week I'm so engrossed in the story on which I've been working that it's difficult to leave it hanging in literary limbo!

Oh, by the way...I think you might like at least one of the books I'm working on. It's the first in a series of mystery books that will each revolve around a set of riddles. (I love your riddles of the week! I wish I could say that I check them every week, but, ya know, life has a habit of sidetracking me! I DO check whenever I remember, though!)

Oh, and about the comic... it doesn't make me look too demented, does it? :oD I saw it and couldn't help myself!

Anywho, hope everything is rocking and rolling for you! Have a spectacular weekend!!!

  4. I can imagine that you get quite immersed in the storyline that you are working on and it must be hard to switch gears. Still, great that you are trying to tackle so much at once.

You are right- I would be very interested in the book with the mystery and riddles. Right up there with my favorite things! I am glad you like the riddles on my site. I have such fun making them up each week. I never know what direction they will take. I can imagine you don't have much time to search the web and check blogs regularly. If you did- you would probably get way off track! It is always nice to have people stop by.

I don't think the comic makes you look demented- I thought it was hilarious and it made me smile.

Hope all is going well with your writing! Can't wait to hear about it. :)

  5. I just started reading "Destruction from Twins" 2 days ago and now I'm 1/2 way through 400 days. I'm really loving the books and escape it provides from my mundane "mommy" life. I'm only mad that I have to wait for the 3rd book! I also got my sister hooked on them. Best thing I ever picked up from a burger shop. ;)

  7. Hey Jess,
Thanks for "popping"! How are things with you? The writing is coming along, but my wackadoodle life keeps getting in the way! Oh well...in lieu of a massive ulcer, I've opted to not sweat it too much. I figure I'll have this round of books finished soon and then I'll...um...probably start more :o) Hugs!!
